The short version
- Circana's PlayerPulse survey found that 29% of US console and PC players intend to buy Grand Theft Auto VI. Circana says that's the highest purchase intent it has ever recorded.
- Analyst forecasts for launch range from 45 million copies on day one (Piper Sandler) to 51 million by the end of launch week (Newzoo). Those are estimates, not sales.
- GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. In India it costs ₹5,999 for the Standard Edition and ₹7,499 for the Ultimate Edition.
- A new Edge magazine cover story adds details on the map, the two leads and a "heat" system. Rockstar's Rob Nelson told Edge the game is "ready".
What Circana found
Circana is the US research firm whose monthly charts most of the industry quotes. If you've wondered how those charts are put together, our Circana explainer covers it. PlayerPulse is a separate survey, where players are asked directly what they plan to buy.
In it, 29% of US console and PC gamers said they intend to buy GTA 6. Circana's Mat Piscatella called it a "rare cultural and commercial moment", and pointed out that players have now waited 13 years since GTA V.
His point goes beyond one game. Piscatella expects the demand to spill into hardware, accessories and subscriptions, with some people buying a PS5 or an Xbox Series console just for this. That's a big deal in a year when console sales have been soft.
Purchase intent isn't the same as sales. People overstate what they'll buy in surveys. Even so, the record matters because it's measured the same way for every game, so GTA 6 is beating every other big release on the same scale.

What the forecasts say
Wccftech ran its own rough maths on Circana's figure and landed on around 30 million US copies. That's Wccftech's estimate, not Circana's.
Other analysts have gone bigger, counting the whole world:
- Newzoo says GTA 6 could sell up to 51 million copies by the end of its launch week.
- Piper Sandler has forecast up to 45 million on launch day.
- Sensor Tower tracked more than 6 million digital pre-orders worth about $594 million, with 74% on PlayStation.
For scale, GTA V has sold over 220 million copies across three console generations. On paper, GTA 6 is set to start far faster. The PlayStation lean in pre-orders also tells you where most players are waiting.

What Edge's cover story added
Edge magazine's GTA 6 cover story, published October 29, filled in a lot of systems that Rockstar's trailers only hinted at. Here's what it reported:
- Map size: nearly as large as GTA IV, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 put together, or roughly twice GTA V's map.
- Getting around: buses and trains run through the state of Leonida.
- Jason and Lucia: you can switch between the two leads at any time. Their relationship sits on a four-point scale that shifts with what you do.
- Crime: a heat system tracks how hot you are with police, who now bring K9 units. A Criminal Profile ranks you from "Professional" up to "Irredeemable".
- Small details: NPCs behave differently by region, there's a smell mechanic, weapons are kept in your car's boot, and cars track fuel and engine health.
- Phone apps: a Scooter Bros app and a fence app called WAINK for offloading stolen goods.
Rockstar's Rob Nelson told Edge the game is "ready". Expect fewer delay rumours from here on.
Price and editions in India
GTA 6 costs ₹5,999 for the Standard Edition ($79.99 in the US) and ₹7,499 for the Ultimate Edition ($99.99). The Ultimate Edition includes extra vehicles like the Grotti Cheetah below. Our full GTA 6 guide has every edition and bonus.

It's PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only at launch, with no PC date. If you're planning to buy a console for it, pre-order the game early and grab a big SSD too. Reports suggest the download is large.
What happens next
The hype isn't slowing down. A South Park episode this week even showed GTA 6 footage. Reviews are reportedly due on November 18, the day before launch.
Mark November 19 on your calendar. If Circana's number holds even partly, expect busy servers and sold-out console bundles that week.
