Warzone Is Now Offline on PS4 and Xbox One: What Happens to Your Progress, and Where You Can Still Play

Call of Duty: Warzone stopped working on PS4 and Xbox One on November 6, when Modern Warfare 4's Season 1 went live. Your progress carries over if you sign in on PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC with the same Activision account, and Warzone has launched on Switch 2 the same day. Here's what carries over, what resets, and what changes in Season 1.

The short version

  • Call of Duty: Warzone no longer works on PS4 or Xbox One. The cut-off came with Season 1 of Modern Warfare 4, which went live at midnight ET on November 6 (10:30am IST).
  • Your progression, Battle Pass and BlackCell progress carry over if you log in on a supported platform with the same linked Activision account.
  • Warzone is still free on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and it launched on Nintendo Switch 2 for the first time on the same day.
  • Everyone's Player Level resets in Season 1, which also brings a new map set in Korea, Hajin, and Modern Warfare 4's 33 launch weapons.

What happened

Activision's Season 1 blog post, published on November 2, said it plainly: from Season 1, Warzone "will no longer be playable" on PS4 and Xbox One, as the game and Modern Warfare 4 move on from older hardware. Season 1 started at 00:00 ET on November 6, which is 9pm PT on November 5 and 10:30am IST on November 6.

So November 5 was the last full day on the old consoles. This wasn't a surprise switch-off. According to Analytics Insight, Activision had already removed Warzone from the PS4 and Xbox One stores on June 4, stopping new downloads, and closed the in-game shop on those versions on June 25.

The reason is Modern Warfare 4. It skipped PS4 and Xbox One entirely, and Warzone now takes its weapons, maps and systems each season. The two games now move together, so Warzone left the old consoles too.

What happens to your progress

Nothing is lost if you move. Activision says your progression carries over to a supported platform as long as you log in with the same linked Activision account. If you played on PS4 and have never linked an account, do that first, then sign in on the new system.

Season 1 also brings items forward from the last four Call of Duty games. Operators, skins and weapon blueprints, plus calling cards, emblems, finishing moves, emotes, sprays, parachutes and contrails from Modern Warfare II, Modern Warfare III, Black Ops 6 and Black Ops 7 all work in Warzone.

There are catches. Everyone's Player Level resets at the start of Season 1, on every platform, and you can level up and Prestige again. Older guns move to a Legacy tab. You can still use them, but you can't edit them in Gunsmith, and they lose mastery camos, reticle challenges and build sharing.

Nintendo Switch 2New, launched with Season 1

The Switch 2 launch is the other big news. It's the first time the free-to-play battle royale has been on a Nintendo console. Nintendo doesn't officially sell the Switch 2 in India, so most Indian players will be moving to a PS5, an Xbox Series console or a PC. The PS5 disc model costs ₹69,990 in India right now, so this is an expensive push for anyone still on a PS4.

What's new in Season 1

Hajin is the new battle royale map. It's set across North and South Korea, has 13 major points of interest including the Hanuel Nuclear Reactor and Chang-san Air Base, and comes with its own Gulag. It's also Modern Warfare 4's DMZ map.

Zodiac is a smaller Resurgence map, built around a drone factory in South Korea, with ten points of interest. Beenox made it with Infinity Ward.

At launch, you get Battle Royale and Resurgence, plus limited-time Rally Point, Massive Resurgence and Loaded Resurgence. Verdansk and Rebirth Island return later in the season. You also get all 33 of Modern Warfare 4's launch weapons.

Why it matters
