Leaked Footage Appears to Show a Remake of the First Persona, Built Like Persona 3 Reload and 4 Revival

A two-minute reel of what looks like a remake of 1996's Revelations: Persona surfaced on YouTube on October 31. It shows exploration, battles and story scenes in the style of Atlus's recent remakes, plus a surprise cameo from Persona 2's Tatsuya Suou. Atlus and Sega haven't commented. Here's what the footage shows, why many think it's real, and where it would fit next to Persona 4 Revival (₹4,399 on Steam, out February 2027).

The short version

  • A roughly two-minute video that appears to show a remake of the original Persona (Revelations: Persona, 1996) was posted to YouTube on October 31 by an account called "P1REMAKE".
  • It shows work-in-progress exploration, battles and story scenes, with a menu style close to Persona 3 Reload and the upcoming Persona 4 Revival, and remixed music from the 1996 game.
  • This is unconfirmed. Atlus and Sega haven't said anything, and the video was still up when Gematsu, Push Square and VGC reported it. Some fans think it's an internal pitch video rather than a finished trailer.
  • Nothing is listed for India, but Atlus's last two remakes cost ₹3,499 (Persona 3 Reload) and ₹4,399 (Persona 4 Revival, pre-order) on Steam.

What leaked, and where

The video went up at around 2:25am Pacific time on October 31, according to Gematsu. The YouTube account behind it was created back in March 2010 and had only ever posted two other videos, which suggests someone renamed an old, quiet account just for this upload. Copies quickly spread to file hosts and to Reddit's r/GamingLeaksAndRumours.

It isn't a polished trailer. Gematsu describes it as a showreel in three parts: walking around the field, turn-based combat, and story scenes built around 2D character illustrations. That structure looks a lot like the "here's what we've got so far" reels studios make internally, which is why VGC notes there's a debate over whether this is real gameplay or a pitch to get the project approved.

Why people think it's real

A few details in the footage are hard to fake:

  • Shared animations. The character Eriko Kirishima summons her Persona with the same animation Yukiko Amagi uses in Persona 4 Revival. Gematsu calls that the detail that lends the footage the most credibility, since an outside fan project wouldn't normally have Atlus's in-house animation work.
  • A Persona 2 cameo. Tatsuya Suou, the hero of Persona 2, shows up in battle. That could be a placeholder model borrowed from another project, or a sign that Persona 2 remakes are in the works too. Nobody knows which.
  • The right look. VGC says the menus look similar to the Persona 3 and 4 remakes but modified, and the soundtrack is a remix of the original's music. Gematsu also spotted Unreal Engine text in a corner of the frame.

There's also history. Persona 3 Reload leaked in April 2023, months before Atlus announced it, so a leak landing ahead of a reveal wouldn't be new for this series.

The reasons for caution are real too. VGC points out that AI-generated video is good enough now that footage like this can't be treated as confirmed until Atlus shows it. Push Square thinks it's probably genuine but doesn't expect Atlus to release two Persona remakes in the same year. Our guide to how game leaks happen covers why leaks like this tend to surface close to a reveal.

Atlus has hinted at this before

In August 2026, Persona 4 Revival producer Kazuhisa Wada told Gamer Braves he couldn't say for sure whether Persona 1 and 2 would be remade, but that personally he thought it was something Atlus "should definitely do". That's not a confirmation. It does mean the idea is being talked about inside the studio.

The game being remade

Revelations: Persona came out on the original PlayStation in Japan on September 20, 1996, and in North America that November. It started the spin-off from Atlus's Shin Megami Tensei series that later became much bigger than its parent. A 2009 PSP version updated the menus, sped up battles, rebalanced the game and added a new soundtrack. The two Persona 2 games (Innocent Sin in 1999, Eternal Punishment in 2000) got PSP versions in 2011 and 2012.

Since then, the original has been the hardest Persona game to play on modern hardware. It's also the one that has aged most, with slow dungeons and old-school difficulty. On paper, that makes it a natural fit for the full rebuild Persona 3 got with Reload. Our remaster vs remake guide explains why that's a bigger job than a port.

Where it would fit in Atlus's schedule

Steam India prices as listed on November 3. Persona 6 was revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase in June and will be on Game Pass from day one.

What to watch for

With Persona 4 Revival still three and a half months away and Persona 6 also in production, a Persona 1 remake would probably be further out. Two things would settle this quickly: the YouTube video being taken down on copyright grounds, which would suggest it's real, or a statement from Atlus. Until then, treat it as a credible-looking leak, not an announcement.
