The short version

  • Nintendo has shipped 26.35 million Switch 2 consoles since launch, as of September 30, 2026.
  • From April to September it shipped 6.49 million, down from about 10.4 million in the same months of 2025.
  • Revenue fell 12.1% to ¥966 billion (about ₹58,000 crore), but operating profit rose 49.1% to ¥216.5 billion.
  • Nintendo kept its full-year target of 16.5 million Switch 2 consoles. Nintendo still doesn't officially sell the Switch 2 in India.

The hardware numbers

Nintendo published its results for the first half of its financial year on November 5. They cover April to September 2026, the console's second spring and summer on sale.

The Switch 2 is still selling well by any normal standard. It shipped 3.82 million units from April to June and 2.67 million from July to September. But both quarters are well down on 2025, when launch demand was at its peak. Over the half, that works out to a drop of roughly 38%.

Zerocade number tiles of Nintendo's April to September 2026 results: 6.49M Switch 2 shipped, 24.49M Switch 2 games sold, net sales ¥966.0B down 12.1%, operating profit ¥216.5B up 49.1%, net profit ¥220.9B up 11.0%, digital sales ¥249.6B up 60.5%, 2.67M consoles in July to September, and a full-year target of 16.5M

The original Switch is winding down but hasn't stopped. It shipped 1.27 million units in the half, taking it to 157.20 million in total.

One thing to keep in mind: these are shipments, meaning consoles sent to shops, not consoles bought by players. Our explainer on shipped vs sold explains why that difference matters.

Why profit went up while sales went down

This is the odd part of the results. Nintendo sold fewer consoles and made less money overall, yet its profit jumped. Nintendo gave two reasons.

The first is software. Games made up a bigger share of sales, and games are far more profitable than consoles. Switch 2 software sold 24.49 million units in the half, and digital sales rose 60.5% to ¥249.6 billion. Movie and licensing income also nearly doubled to ¥62.7 billion, helped by The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

The second is a one-off. Nintendo got a refund of US tariffs it had paid earlier, and it booked that refund in the April to June quarter. That lifted profit in a way that won't repeat.

Here's the full picture:

Measure (April-September)2026Change
Net sales¥966.0 billionDown 12.1%
Operating profit¥216.5 billionUp 49.1%
Ordinary profit¥300.6 billionUp 27.4%
Net profit¥220.9 billionUp 11.0%
Digital sales¥249.6 billionUp 60.5%

The July to September quarter on its own looks weaker. AFP reports that net profit for those three months fell 29% to ¥73.5 billion, below the ¥82.2 billion analysts expected.

The best-selling Switch 2 games

Mario Kart World is still far ahead of everything else, at 16.48 million copies. It was bundled with many consoles at launch, which explains a lot of that lead.

Zerocade bar chart of Switch 2 million-sellers to September 30, 2026: Mario Kart World 16.48M, Donkey Kong Bananza 5.05M, Pokémon Legends Z-A Switch 2 Edition 4.04M, Pokémon Pokopia 4.04M, Splatoon Raiders 2.42M, Kirby Air Riders 1.94M, Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave 1.34M, Super Mario Party Jamboree Switch 2 Edition 1.28M, Star Fox 1.17M

Below it, Donkey Kong Bananza has passed 5 million, and two Pokémon games are tied at 4.04 million. Newer releases like Splatoon Raiders, Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave and Star Fox have all crossed a million. On the original Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is now at 72 million.

What Nintendo expects next

Nintendo didn't change any of its forecasts for the year ending March 2027. It still expects to ship 16.5 million Switch 2 consoles and 60 million Switch 2 games, with revenue of ¥2.05 trillion and operating profit of ¥370 billion.

To hit 16.5 million, Nintendo needs about 10 million more consoles in the six months from October to March. That's a big ask, but the holiday season is always Nintendo's biggest. It has The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, out today, and a special Zelda 40th anniversary edition of the Switch 2 that launched in October. Metroid Ravenous follows in January.

Costs are the risk. Memory chips have become much more expensive this year because of demand from AI servers, and the Switch 2 already went up by $50 to $499.99 in the US on September 1. Nintendo didn't put a figure on the memory hit in these results.

What it means for Indian players

Nintendo doesn't run an official store or eShop in India, so these numbers don't change much locally. Imported Switch 2 consoles usually cost more than the converted US price once shipping and duty are added. With US prices already up and memory costs still rising, a cheaper Switch 2 doesn't look likely soon, though a rumoured Switch 2 Lite could change that if it's real.

The next numbers to watch are the holiday quarter results in early February, which will show whether Nintendo is on track for 16.5 million.
