The short version
- Microsoft has announced the Xbox Nano Controller, a smaller Xbox pad that weighs about 100g (3.5oz) and is just over five inches long.
- It costs $49.99 in the US, about ₹4,750 converted. That's $15 less than the standard Xbox controller. India pricing hasn't been announced.
- Pre-orders are open in the US, and it ships on November 4.
- It has a built-in rechargeable battery that charges over USB-C, but the cable is sold separately.
What it is
The Nano keeps the full Xbox button layout in a much smaller shell. Microsoft is pitching it for gaming on the go, cloud streaming, and players with smaller hands.
It connects to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles over Xbox Wireless, and to Windows PCs, Android phones, iPhones, iPads and some smart TVs over Bluetooth. That includes Samsung TVs running the Xbox app.
There's also a programmable action button. You can set it to take a screenshot, record a clip, or run another shortcut.
What's missing
Microsoft hasn't given a battery life figure, only saying it "varies significantly" with use. The battery is built in, so it won't work with Xbox charging stands that use swappable packs.
The sticks are also standard, not the drift-resistant Hall effect or TMR type that many cheaper third-party pads now use. Our Hall effect vs TMR explainer covers why that matters.
Who it's for
On paper, the Nano makes the most sense for cloud gaming on a phone or TV, where a full-size pad is more than you need. At $49.99 it undercuts the standard Xbox controller. Indian buyers will have to wait and see whether Microsoft brings it here, and at what price.
In the US, Microsoft is also bundling it with some Samsung TVs and Meta Quest headsets, along with two months of Game Pass Ultimate for new members.
What to watch: India pricing and availability, and the first battery life figures once it ships on November 4.
